Many Hands by Becky Brooks

Have you ever been camping? Pitching a tent in a field is not usually a relaxing activity, especially if you don’t really know what you are doing.

Imagine what a task it must have been, then, to pack up the whole nation of Israel and move them around the desert. The Tabernacle alone was a major operation for packing, moving and unpacking, especially considering it contained the many holy objects we have seen described.

Thankfully, God had it all under control. He appointed each clan of the Levites – three of them – to take care of a special responsibility. A census was to be taken and each person was to have their own special role. In that way many hands would make light work.

You will have heard the saying, “to stand up and be counted.” These Levites all stood to be counted into the service of the Lord. Each one of them worked as part of their clan, and each clan worked as part of the whole tribe to make sure the job was done. Each individual person might only have had a small job to do, but when they all played their part, the result would have been a magnificently efficient operation.

Will you stand up and be counted? Even if it means only having a small job to do? Rest assured that if you become one of God’s ‘many hands’ you will be part of something truly magnificent.
