Bezalel and Oholiab were chosen by the Lord to fulfil a specific task – to lead the team of skilled craftspeople that would bring God’s blueprints for the Tabernacle and its contents into reality.
These men received two types of gifts. They were gifted with wisdom, understanding, knowledge and skills. This was essential if they were to make sure the precious and fine items were created to the highest standard.
They were also gifted with the Holy Spirit. They were not just skilled craftsmen, but appointed and anointed craftsmen, set apart for the work. The Holy Spirit would ensure that throughout the process, the craftsmen would make decisions that were in accordance with the will of God.
There are many who are skilled, knowledgeable and even masters of what they do, but when the Lord appoints a person to a task, there is more to it than their skill, even if that skill is a gift from God. The presence and work of the Holy Spirit in them is also needed.
Without the Holy Spirit’s presence, it is too easy to rely totally on our skill, on our knowledge, forgetting the source of all knowledge. The Holy Spirit guides us to use the gifts that God has given to us in the ways that serve, honour and glorify God, whether that is preaching the word, or designing the pulpit. As you serve the Lord, why not ask him for a fresh infilling of the Holy Spirit because those God appoints, he also anoints.
